Style Icon: Lea Michele (aka I didn't know one person could look so good ALL THE TIME)

As if Lea Michele's natural beauty and 18-inch waist (I can only guess) wasn't enough to keep this Broadway-meets-TV darling looking glam red carpet after red carpet, she might have the best taste in dresses I HAVE EVER SEEN. Over the past few months of award shows, Miss Glee USA has blown me away time and time again, starting with her short red frock at the People's Choice Awards, the oh-so-elegant, floor-length Oscar de la Renta at the Golden Globes, last week's emerald gown at the SAG awards, and finally, last night's black (or navy?) mini at the Grammys. Lea's red carpet looks always leave me helplessly picking my jaw off the floor.

Grammys 2010
Love everything about this look: the one shoulder, the feathered mini skirt, the simple hair and basic shoes. Ahh love love love.

Golden Globes 2010
in Oscar de la Renta - girl's got great taste

SAG Awards 2010
Adore the color choice of this gown, especially contrasted against her dark hair (note*** this dress was actually much brighter than it looks here). Poor photo quality or not, Lea Michele looks elegant and beautiful. Isn't that the point of these red carpets? Why do so many stars get it wrong time and time again and this newcomer makes it look like a walk in the park?

Peoples Choice Awards 2010
again great color choice

Teen Choice Awards 2009
Quite possibly my favorite of all Lea's looks. I think we all know why. But other than the happy hue, I'm realizing how much I love one shoulder styles. And I'm wishing I could get my hair to curl like that.

Fox Upfront event
Foxy lady.

Proving that sometimes basic neutrals are the way to go.

Can you say the perfect LBDs?

I always want to know which of these stars style themselves and who hires professional help. I want to believe this is all Lea.

Style Icon: Glee's Emma Pillsbury

Have you ever wanted to be friends with a fictional character?

During the pilot episode of Glee, the image below flashed across my screen.
J.Crew's Penelope pumps in yellow and silver.
Paired with the monochromatic yellow ensemble, I knew this fictional character and I were cut from the same cloth.
Here's a PR shot of the actual shoes that I debated buying when they were available this past summer. Alas, I did not. Damn you, overpriced shoes!

***If you haven't already started watching Glee, do yourself a favor and tune in. The season is currently on hiatus due to another season of American Idol beginning, so now is the best time to catch up online. I am still giddy from last night's episode and plan on watching it again this weekend (or tonight).***

Anywho! This post is not about Glee as much as it's about my favorite character on the show: Emma Pillsbury, McKinley High's guidance counselor and possibly the most fashionable guidance counselor in the history of guidance counselors. I am pretty sure her entire wardrobe consists of J.Crew and Anthropologie items. But hey, don't ask me. Check out the blogs of Emma Pillsbury gurus, What Would Emma Pillsbury Wear and Midwestern Cliche, the latter of whom has identified just about every item worn by this colorful character.

And colorful she is. Emma only wears black when it's paired with a kelly green brooch and never fears the consequences of wearing yellow on yellow on yellow on yellow... (see photo above.) Her clothes perfectly compliment the cheery red color of her hair and her sing-songy voice. I adore her.

Two things I love about Emma Pillsbury's outfits: 1. the accessibility of the items (like I said, I think just about every item comes from J.Crew, Banana Republic, or Anthropologie) and 2. that she repeats articles of clothing and accessories (unlike most TV show character's). Here she is rocking this Alice and Olivia Bridgett blouse. Twice.
And you'll see this yellow-beaded ladybug bracelet from
J.Crew time and time again.

Much like my other style icon, Kate Middleton, Miss Pillsbury frequently dons a "uniform" so to speak. Her outfits typically consist of three things: colorful cardigans, pencil skirts, and ruffly blouses. Add chunky, feminine jewelry and you've got her look down.
How cute is the feminine sweater guard?
I don't know that I've ever actually seen someone wear this (and wear it well!) in person.

Now this is how to stay chic in the cold.

I spy a monogrammed mug from Anthropologie.
My very own "A" mug, which I too keep on my desk, is staring
me in the face as I type.

Style Icon: Olivia Wilde

I don't know when I started enjoying awards shows, but for one reason or another, I do. And while watching the Emmy's last night, I was in awe of actress Olivia Wilde's [House] Marchesa gown. Not only was it innovative (that is a sheen fabric wherever you see skin around her chest, abdomen, and back), but it was also stunning - a tricky combination. And she looked stunning in it, standing out among the waves of beautiful celebrities walking the red carpet.

The detailed leaf-like pieces of fabric give the gown its ethereal look.
While I love exposed zippers, it does not work here making this is my least favorite part of the dress. I think a zipper up the side would have been better with just a sheer back.
The Marchesa gown was unveiled on runways just last week as part of the designer's spring 2010 line. I think Olivia looks a million times better. This lady just needs a cheeseburger. But that's my two cents.
Other sparkly gems Olivia's rocked
My other favorite. Very old Hollywood glam. 2008 Emmys.
2008 Golden Globes. Love the color.
You can get a ton of use out of this one (if you were a normal person and not being photographed everywhere you go).
Two other timeless looks I love...
All bundled up and still looking fab. My scarves never look like that. And how great is the hat?
Casual and cute.

Style Icon: Katherine Heigl on-screen and off

This girl knows how to run her mouth and get otherwise adoring fans to turn on her. While she is spunky and relatable on screen, when Katherine Heigl opens up in an interview, she normally ends up losing friends and severing business relationships. That aside, the girl can dress. And while the clothes in her newest flick, The Ugly Truth, were styled by Betsy Heimann, Heigl never disappoints on the red carpet either.

I haven't seen this movie yet, but the preview alone - and one dress in particular - inspired me to look into her character's wardrobe. And here it is:

The custom Giorgio Armani LBD that made my jaw drop. Perfect shape. Great neckline. Just the right amount of sexy. Wish I had one. Alas, it is an Armani, custom-order only, so I can't fathom how much it costs.
...and from the back, this dress continues to turn heads.
The red dress from the poster set the tone for her character's sexy but traditional style of tailored ensembles in classic colors.
Great wrap dress. The buckle adds interest.
black top, gold lengthy necklace, and camel-colored leather bag
- very Carolyn Bessette who was rumored to have only warn the colors black, camel, and white
more camel colors
adore this outfit. i want that jacket.
