What a lovely unexpected surprise! A week or so ago Danielle and I received an email for a quick job opportunity in the Bay area. California break in January? Sign us up! We'll be recording a series of videos today and tomorrow where we'll be competing not as "experts" but in an area where neither of us have any skill at all. It's not at all Everygirl-related, but should be a fun(ny) time nonetheless. And this all happened to fall on the same week my boyfriend was already heading to SF, so I both tagged on a few extra days for vaca and we'll be here until Sunday. It's 16 degrees in Chicago today. 74 in Santa Cruz. Dinner with some SF-based friends Friday night. What a glooorious break.
Any restaurant recommendations for Santa Cruz or brunch/lunch recos for San Fran? All help is appreciated!
Have a wonderful trip! You lucked out with the weather, it's been soo nice! It's supposed to be 72 today! Wish you had time for a blogger meet up!
ReplyDeleteHave a great time! I'm sure the weather will be 10x better than it is on the east coast!!

Cafe de la Presse for brunch in San Fran. So good!
ReplyDeleteThe Red Lounge is fantastic for cocktails, and I think they serve dinner too. The Palomar on Pacific Ave is fun for dinner too. Red and Palomar are both downtown, which is just a fun place in general to mosey around. Lots of shops, places to eat/ drink, and epic people watching.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a wonderful time! I loved San Fran the last time I was there. If you have the chance make sure you try the "original" Irish coffee at The Buena Vista, and if you drive up the coast make sure to stop at Sam's Chowder House and get the lobster roll!
ReplyDeleteAn amazing picture! How I miss San Fran.
ReplyDeleteThe Ferry Plaza Farmers Market is on Saturday 8AM-2PM. It takes place at the Ferry Building and that in itself is a delight (food, shopping etc)! Make sure you run by Miette and try a cupcake! Wayfare Tavern, Perbacco, Fog City Diner, La Mar & Tadich Grill are all great places to dine. Swan's Oyster Depot is also an old school treat! Supposed to be a nice weekend in SF...have fun! PS-I agree with Britt, The BV is great if you haven't been there to try an Irish Coffee yet.
ReplyDeleteCafe des Amis in the Marina is my girl date brunch go-to. And if you want a totally different experience (i.e. a total dive, but stuff yourself silly), Shanghai Dumpling King in the Richmond is genius. The Barrel Room (near Union Sq) is an awesome wine bar with the most knowledgeable, friendly staff. If you have time, you should also check out Japantown - adorable housewares and shops, lots of tasty eats. And I second the Ferry Building recommendation above. I just love living in the Bay Area - there are too many great things to list!
ReplyDeleteThe Slanted Door!!!
ReplyDeleteI used to live in SF! my favorite brunch places are "Slow Club" and "Mission Beach Cafe" (both in the mission) My favorite dinner spots are "Maverick" or "Delfina" yum!
ReplyDeleteAlso, best coffee on the planet is "Blue Bottle Coffee" I order the beans to ship to me in Chicago, that's how good they are!
ReplyDeleteMama's on Washington Square for breakfast. Arrive early, before they open! Such delicious and unique egg dishes, and Mama's Smoothie with fresh berries, juice, yogurt and honey.
ReplyDeleteZoccoli's Deli in Santa Cruz is wonderful- a wide range of cold and hot sandwiches, as well as salads and homemade sides, treats, etc.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite place to get lunch is The House in North Beach. The wasabi noodles are AMAZING!
ReplyDeleteFor truly amazing food in Santa Cruz, try Cafe Delmarette for breakfast (small menu but each item is flawless) and for lunch or dinner either The West End (absolutely mouth watering) or Lillian's Italian Kitchen, both are sinful options! The weather here has been seriously crazy amazing, you will be visiting at the perfect time. Summer weather but no Summer season tourists!

I hope you had an amazing time! Totally jealous of that weather!!
ReplyDeleteYou could check SOMA Restaurant and Bar on 5th Street. Loved their Steak. Check - https://www.facebook.com/SomaRestaurantBar
ReplyDeleteZazie Restaurant in Cole Valley. Awesome food, cute neighborhood, and if the weather is nice you can sit outside on the back patio. Also, a little tip, the tables outside in the front are first come first served, so if you get there right as someone is leaving, and you don't feel like waiting you can sit out there.
ReplyDeleteHope you had fun!! Caitlin said she loved seeing you. I was in Chicago/Michigan the same time you were in SF. I can't believe how warm it is here in the Bay Area still. We really do need some rain, though…ah!
