Fifty Shades of Grey

As you all know, I'll be moving at the end of summer. A lot of what I own won't be coming with me since I undoubtedly will be in a place a fraction the size of my current apartment. Thoughts of re-purposing, decorating, painting, and defining what I want the look and style of this next home to be keep infiltrating my thoughts on a daily basis. Something new. Something different, I say to myself. Explore more with color. Embrace ultra-femininity. Go bold. Go glamorous. Paint with color.

I likely will attempt a different style in my new place. But as for wall color, the color grey is constantly tugging at my heartstrings. The new issue of Rue came out yesterday, and the pages are littered with 50+ shades of grey... cabinets, walls, furniture, lighting fixtures, floors... the neutral is so diverse and comes in so many different hues, I am wondering/hoping I can use it again but make it look different from my highly applauded Dolphin Fin walls in my current home.

What are your thoughts? Is grey overdone? Are you bored of it? Would you like to see something new and exciting? Or should I hold true to my roots and go with what's practical?

On another note, have any of you read the book? I'll be snatching that up as soon as my roommate's done with it. Giggles.

  1. Honestly, I love grey as a foundation color. Most of my accessories are grey because I wear bright colored clothing a lot. In fact, yesterday I wore a coral dress, blue gold button blazer, and some peep toe grey beauties.

I think grey matches everything and makes colors pop more than they would simply on their own.

  2. Grey is my most favorite home interior color ever! If you need a list of ahhh-mazing grey paint colors, I have a few favorites from Benjamin Moore! Love all of the inspiration images you used as well!

  3. While all of your inspiration pictures are beautiful & I love your blog I was a little disappointed to click on the title & find that this post was not about the book series that has me enraptured right now ;)

  4. Huge fans of gray as a base wall color over here. We fall into the trap of wanting white-white-white everything, but gray can be so much richer and softer! And I think it goes without saying that we CAN'T WAIT to see what you do with your new space!

  6. Loooove tried-and-true grey. Not sure if you know this - but I painted our hallway Dolphin Fin after loving it on your blog for so long. It really is the perfect shade! And speaking of shades... yes, I did read the books. All 3. In a week. They are amazingly addicting - have fun!

  11. I love grey! I painted my kitchen and guest bath a light grey and it really opened the rooms up. Grey is fun because you can pair it with pretty much any color you want. You can turn it classic by pairing it with other neutrals or jewel tones or you can make it fun by pairing it with hot pink, yellow, and metallics!

I just started reading the first book yesterday; I borrowed it from my co-worker. She LOVED it and is almost done with the third book. She's a marathon reader...she started the first book about 1.5 weeks ago :)

  12. I think grey is perfect! It gives you so much flexibility to rearrange or redecorate over time. I love the photo by Woodnote. My all time favorite style is rustic modern, and I think the photo pulls it off!

  14. We're in the process of renovating our kitchen and I've been loving grey!!! I'm almost positive we're doing a pearly light grey floor and the cabinets will either be a weathered grey stain or painted a dove grey! Love all of these inspiring photo's!!!

  15. I love using grey! It's still a neutral so you can really toss anything with it but it's much more exciting than white or beige.

  16. I'm so not over Gray! Its the perfect base color. I like to go bold with color and pattern so its essential for me to have a good base like Gray. White would feel too bland for me. Plus there are so many different kinds of gray!

  21. Gray is a great color; however I do favor bright colors, so I say try out fun accent colors like oranges and pinks - they really liven a space up!

I am on book 3 of Fifty Shades of Grey. I am loving the series and really hope EL James writes a new trilogy in the eyes of Grey! I actually just posted a blog on Fifty Shades of Grey - please check it out when you have a chance, I'd love to hear your thoughts: http://beautymovesme.com/

    Thanks,
