Bailey said it best in her comment on yesterday's post that the best part about the ad was that it actually made her want to buy Tommy Hilfiger products. I couldn't agree more! Successful advertisement, indeed. Here are a few of my favorite Hilfiger products for the season.

Feast Interruptus: Let's Talk Prep

I cannot get enough of this Tommy Hilfiger commercial, a minute-long video entitled Feast Interruptus. The uber-preppy styling of this campaign inspires me to no end when it comes to dressing and decorating for the cold, holiday season. Every time I watch it, some new charming or ingenious detail pops out at me. Behold...

As if the station wagon complete with wood paneling wasn't great enough, I spy an old wooden racket and vintage skies - two favorite pastimes of preps worldwide.

Navy, camel, and grey are three color staples in any prepster's closet. Sprinkle in saturated primary accents - reds and yellows and plaid for good measure - and you've pretty much bought yourself admission to Groton.

Sweat headband corralling an abundance of moppy curls? How very Richie Tenenbaum of you, Hilfiger stylists.

I can't decide who I love more: the Candace Bergen look-alike being carried around sedan-chair style or the cutie with the glasses and the toggle coat. Tricky...

Instead of a traditional tablecloth, layer plaid blankets across the dining table. [Logging that into long-term memory for use at a later date.]

Navy and gold-trimmed china paired with monogrammed napkin rings a preppy place setting make.

So young, yet so cool. Not fair. On another note, what's with the fingerless gloves? I've been seeing these everywhere, and quite frankly, I don't get it.

So many turtlenecks, fitted blazers, oversized sunglasses, and plaid! Styling at its best. Then there's the candelabras... can't forget to mention the candelabras!

Scarves look so great on guys. Make sure the men in your life are accessorizing properly this chilly season, and get them a cute scarf (whether they want one or not).

There's that cool child again... love her little barrette. Another nod to the Tenenbaums, I think.

Lighting Inspiration

I'm feeling completely inspired by this home tour Apartment Therapy recently posted. Homeowner John Saint-Denis blended a contemporary Manhattan vibe with vintage details and fixtures when remodeling his 1500 square-foot solar-powered condo in LA. I'm bookmarking these shots of the dining room, kitchen, and bathroom for my sister who is currently in the market for light fixtures for her home renovation. They are dramatic, elegant, and timeless - perfect investment pieces.

The Girl: By the age of nine, she preferred cashmere to merino wool, Ladurée macaroons to chocolate chip cookies, and Manet over Monet. Most of her childhood was spent longing for weekend trips into the city with her mother where she was introduced to the fine culture and high society Paris had to offer.

Her Room: Now that she lives and studies in the city, she eagerly awaits for weekend trips home, where she'll get to sleep in her childhood room. She's comforted by the fact that it still looks exactly as it did when she was a little girl and told the decorator she wanted "pink everything!" Of course, for this blue-blooded five-year-old, "pink" resulted in custom window treatments, reupholstered family antiques, and D. Porthault linens.

Kitchen Porn

My sister and her husband are currently renovating their new old house, and she's asked (forced) me to help out as much as I can with the design (even though I'm in another state and haven't seen it). So for her - and for my own future if I ever own property - I'd like always to remember these three perfect kitchens.

KITCHEN 1: The Ikea Bombshell

What?! That's IKEA?! No way. NO way!... thoughts rang out across the land. The 2010 IKEA catalogue featured this perfectly styled kitchen complete with white and glass cabinets, farmhouse sink, open shelving, rustic lighting, and an eery sense of old world charm. How did they do it? ... And design would never be the same.

KITCHEN 2: The SGG-Inspired

For those of you not in the know, Something's Gotta Give-inspired kitchens have been a main request to interior designers since the movie debuted in 2003. Not to mention it reigns as the most searched kitchen at ArchitecturalDigest.com, where interior shots of the famous room were featured. Slate countertops, stainless steel appliances, dome pendants, white subway tiles, oversized island(s), white cabinets, dark hardwood floors... you get the picture. Classic, livable, durable, beautiful. What's not to love?

KITCHEN 3: The Attainable Beauty

Owned by Sarah Richardson's former number #1 right-hand man, Tommy, this fairly small kitchen is full of affordable design ideas. For example, stainless steel countertops are available at IKEA. Tiled marble backsplash is significantly cheaper than a full slab. Vintage dining furniture can be found at any flea market or second-hand shop for half the cost of a new table and chairs. And you can get two-toned cabinets with a couple cans of paint. I will admit those herringbone floors are probably less attainable on a budget. They're pretty much the coolest thing I've ever seen.

LCY SHOPS: Back to the Basics

One Miss Gwyneth Paltrow will be guest-starring on Glee tonight as every boy's dream substitute teacher: the beautiful, blonde, cool Holly Holiday. Last Friday, I posted the preview clip of Holly/Gwyneth's rendition of Cee-Low's "Forget You." Yes, the song was fun, but I was more enamored with Gwyneth's wardrobe. Shocking. You really can't go wrong with a sexy black turtleneck, wool grey mini, and knee-highs (or are they boots? I really can't tell).

Fashion vs Furnishings | 11.12.10

Want to know a secret? I've had a crap week. Absolute. Crap.

I didn't - and don't - want to go into it, because this blog serves to inspire with all things happy and beautiful and good. I want to keep it that. My happy place.

But this weekend, I plan on coping with a bit of retail therapy. A razzle dazzle blazer to brighten my mood, and some words of encouragement to pin on my inspiration board as a daily reminder that this sh*t too, shall pass.

And thank you, Paloma and Erin. Once again you've provided more inspiration and motivation than perhaps you realized. Happy Weekend, all!

Artist Snapshot: Emily Johnston Anderson Photography

I've been so privileged to work with photographer Emily Johnston Anderson twice now - once in Chicago and once in New York City. Emily requires hardly any equipment and shoots using the natural light of the space. She dodges around the room, snapping vignettes here and there, capturing every inch of the room. I think her photographs show the scope of her talent because not only is she an artist behind the lens, she's a brilliant stylist, as well. She recognizes how moving furniture an inch or two in either direction can completely alter the shot, or how placing an extra book or coffee cup in the shot adds character. It was like watching a magician - she can take something perfectly ordinary and make it beautiful with a click of a button.

It's in the Bag

So I was just minding my own business, scrolling through Kate Spade's Last Chance sale when out of nowhere, I was blindsided by this lil' number. The Knightsbridge Zipper Darcy purse. In yellow. For almost half off. Quite frankly, I'm not sure it gets cuter. If only the leather was quilted instead of croc-embossed, my purchasing this would be a done deal.

The Mom Cave

When designing and building her new home, Megan of Honey We're Home had the privilege of creating her dream closet, or Mom Cave, as she calls it. The 9’4 x 13’2 space is an organization fanatic's dream. There is quite literally a place for everything and everything's in its place. Not to mention rows of beautiful clothes perfectly spaced out, colorful Tory Burch boxes lining the shelves, and a bubbly chandelier to boot!

This shot reminds me of a store. I especially love the way the scarves are tied on the rod.

Ivory, madras, tweed, navy... Kate Middleton would be proud.

How much fun would it be deciding which shoes to wear? And pants? And jeans?
