Belle: Going Blue in the Kitchen

Behold: inspiration for our kitchen. Blue, white, and a dash of gold hardware for good measure.

Here's what the room currently looks like. We plan on painting the cabinets white.

Yes. It's true. I'm going dark blue in my lil' ole' kitchen. I know it goes against every rule of small spaces - dark colors make them feel smaller, light colors open them up. Don't care, I'm doin it!

Thanks to Farrow and Ball, we'll be using their color Drawing Room Blue, as seen in the three photos above. I love the richness of this blue. It's not too black and not too purple. But juuuuust right.

Definitely want to add this nautical delight to the mix. It's the Dash and Albert navy striped rug from Layla Grayce.

And we'll be on our way...
Most pathetic Photoshop rendering ever. But you get the idea!

Thoughts, questions, concerns?!

  1. I think it's silly when people say you shouldn't paint a dark room a dark color. I think embracing the darkness makes for a cozy room.
I wanted to paint my lower kitchen cabinets a dark blue but my counters are black. I don't think it would look right. And I can't afford to replace my counters.

  2. I love the coziness of dark rooms--and dark blue walls are my absolute favorite! Can't wait to see how it turns out.

Still waiting on a response from my landlord about painting my bedroom dark blue. I think he's freaking out a little about dark walls...

  5. We did Sherwin Williams "Bosporous" blue in our kitchen (with white painted cabinets) and I love it still. Even though your color is very saturated it looks like you get some good natural light in your new kitchen and painting out the cabinets will make a huge difference in bouncing the light around. Enjoy! CT

  7. I say go for the blue. In that space, a rich velvety blue would look fantastic. Can't wait to see how it all shapes up.

  14. As a renter, would you mind doing a post about how to work with your landlord to negotiate painting--especially cupboards? I've been wanting to paint my place for such a long time.
