Help Needed

Happy Hump Day, dear readers! Quick question for all of you because I just cannot make up my mind. I want to paint the bar tray in my dining room but need your help! Let me know what you think. The options are:

black
(to accent the candlesticks)

grey
(to match the dining chairs)

teal
(to compliment the birdcage)

white
(like everything else in the room)

Help!

  1. Any of the choices are lovely but I would have to go with the teal because I love the birdcage! It's awesome and should definitely be complimented! :) xo

  2. I say black for sure, I was going to suggest a mirror like finish, or a mercury glass like the like the little curvy candlestick to the right, but I think that would be a bit too matchy matchy...black will look great!

  3. I definitely say black. I think it looks really clean and works well with the other items.

  4. go bold! do you have any colors accross the room or in your family room that you can tie in on the bar? Maybe yellow like you have in your office or family room?

  5. I would have to say the grey!
the others are lovely, but I worry it looks too matchy-matchy. The grey is a nice contrast without being in your face!

  6. I think I like either grey or white. In my oppinion, by painting it teal you would take some attention off the birdcage which is a main focal point. It won't stand out as much as if it was the only thing in teal, you know what I mean?

  7. teal all the way. really helps circle back with the room. just not white or black!!! Grey or teal!!!

  8. I say black! I can't believe that I didn't notice your beautiful teal birdcage when I was at your apartment. I am obsessed!

ps love the new yellow accent :)

  9. Grey for sure! It brings out your art, too!

  10. I think...black. It is the color you have the least of in that photo so it would make the biggest impact. Although I like LindsB idea of yellow too!

  11. i vote TEAL :) pretty accessories!

  13. would love them all, but I would love to see it teal to be honest!

  14. My vote is for the gray. It ties everything together without being too matchy matchy!

  15. I'd go with the black or gray. I think the teal would take away from that awesome birdcage.

  16. I say teal - the little pop of color will look great!

  17. I like the teal. I think it makes for another nice pop of color.

  18. BLACK!

it would totally and completely cap off the vignette.

well, thats my opinion at least :)

truth be told, they all look great! can't wait to see what you choose!

  19. i'm all about the gray! i think it's the perfect contrast between the whites/blacks/teal!

  20. Grey. It's less obvious than the teal. Teal looks like you purposely tried to match. Grey looks more effortless.

  21. Go with the teal! It balances well with the birdcage and it will be a welcome splash of color on the top of the buffet.
And if you hate it, you can always paint over it. As Eddie Ross says, "When in doubt, paint it out!"

  22. Grey or Black - the grey should be a gun metal grey. Flat paint - so you put something that shines (ice bucket, shaker) is would stand out.

  23. I like the grey, but...they will all look wonderful

  24. I would go with black if you're set on painting it, but I really the wicker color. I think it ads a natural element to the room. Good Luck!

  25. Definitely Black! I love the sconces too! It looks gorgous!

  26. I would have to say I love its current "All-Naturale" look. Wouldn't change a thing.

  27. I'd say either leave it be as it's a nice contrast that doesn't match anything else OR paint it black to make it stand out

Have to say I am in LOVE with that bar area. Blogged about it today!

  28. Black!! I think it will contrast nicely against the white shelves. Also, it adds a dramatic/masculine feel to the "bar"...very appropriate!

    ReplyDelete
  29. BLACK for sure. The contrast is lovely.

  30. My first choice would be black to balance out the candlesticks. I also like the gray if you want a bit of a softer look.

  31. I like the black... but I think I like the teal more. It just pops so nicely!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I like the contrast of the black.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I personally like the natural wicker color as well. I wouldn't change it either. But if you'd like a change I'd go with either the grey or the black, depending on whether you want a softer look or a more bold pop of color. I also love the idea of yellow.

  34. What a lovely tray. Who gave it to you?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Grey, definitely.

Teal is pretty, but 'takes away from' rather than accentuates the birdcage.

Grey stands out- isn't hidden like the white or black, meshes well with both the silver and teal- and white or black for that matter.

  36. Black! Not only does it pull from the candlesticks but also from the dark wine bottles on the bottom shelf. I think it brings some depth to your light and airy room.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Definitely go with the teal. It goes well with the other items in the room, as well as being a lovely pop of colour!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Not sure we're helping since everyone has their own opinion, haha! My preference is black. Good luck!

  39. White is always the best!
    Best regards :)

  40. I like the teal to compliment the birdcage option.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I really like the teal. It's just such a great color!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Def not white.. Im torn between gray and teal! both would look great

    ReplyDelete
  43. Definitely black....gives contrast!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I would leave it white and add grey stripes! I would do horizontal lines that run along the sides and the top (about 3-4 inches in width. Then I would paint the bottom of each cubby gray for added visual interest! I love the teal birdcage and think it would get totally lost sitting next to a big teal bar. Just my opinion. Good luck can't wait to see what you do!

  45. I vote Black. Love the yellow accents on the blog!

    ReplyDelete
  46. hah! wow, I totally didn't read the post carefully. thought you were talking about the bar itself! Long day...time to log off.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Black! Black! Black! The teal will take away from your
fantastic Birdcage it will look too deliberate....

    ReplyDelete
  48. Teal!!!!!!!!!!!! Black is boring, grey gets lost, as does white. Teal POPS and shoes off the bar display!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I would say grey to match the dining chairs. That way the room looks cohesive and designed...in my opinion. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  50. I say grey, and if not then black.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Please don't do it teal and detract anything from that awesome birdcage. I'd go with black. I wouldn't have thought of it initially, but it makes a really strong (in a good way) contrast in the mock-up you did.

    ReplyDelete
  52. grey to be calm and restful.

teal to be fun and playful.

if i walked in and saw it grey i'd think "i love how calm this place is". if i walked in and saw teal i'd think "i love how fun this girl is!"

if it helps, i still haven't decided if i want to be a "calm" person or a "fun" person when representing my home. so i opt for neutrals and add fun through humorous art, etc.

  53. For me it's a toss up between the black and the teal, but if forced to choose, I believe I would go with the teal.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Gray! It's not too dark, not too light, and adds just the right amount of "color" to the space :)

    ReplyDelete
  55. grey...you dont want to take away from the birdcage
