Five Goals for 2012

1. Launch The Everygirl
There are a lot of smaller, more specific goals that fall under this umbrella, but Danielle and I have put a lot of eggs into this proverbial basket and securing the success of this site is my number one goal in 2012. I am already so proud of what the two of us have been able to put together; watching the site evolve from a concept in August to what it already is and will be has been a surreal experience. I cannot wait to share our work with the world and hopefully inspire women who want to do something exciting in their own lives.

2. Add bright colors to my home (and wardrobe).
I am proud and humbled to see that photos of my home have made the rounds on other blogs and Pinterest and even appeared in a few publications. But my apartment is constantly described as a neutral space - which, let's face it with all the white and grey - it is! However, I'd like to switch it up a bit by incorporating more colorful accents. I'm hoping saturated hues will energize the overall mood of the home and nourish creative thinking.

3. Get my butt back to Paris.
I said it last year. It didn't happen. So I'll say it again. I need to return to Paris. Scholars maintain that if it doesn't happen, I, Alaina Kaczmarski, might just shrivel up in my newly brightened home and turn into a prune.

4. Do something - anything - different with my hair.
Let me start by saying my hair is staying long. It will always stay long. I tried short hair in middle school and my own mother says that's a look that should be forgotten. But it's been the same for several years now. Super straight, same brown color, and now I'd like to mix it up a bit. I'm loving this ombre trend, even though it reminds me of someone whose highlights grew out and they forgot to touch it up. Not sure about this. Stay tuned.

5. Cook a new recipe for dinner at least once a week.
As part of my lifelong plan to continue to grow, change, and... wait for it... create myself, I plan to make more of an effort honing my skills in the kitchen this year. And with the new Le Creuset pan in my arsenal, I suspect this will be more fun - and slightly easier - than it was before. Oh the joys of having proper cooking equipment.

So that's that. Nothing too crazy. All perfectly doable. But I think it helps to write them down, stare them in the face, and look at them head-on. It will be that much more fun crossing them off the list later.

What are your goals for the year? Anything exciting evolving in your careers? Or at home? Or in a relationship? Spill the beans!

  1. I love your list of goals! It's short, but ambitious. Getting back to Paris is on my own list of resolutions {though I haven't told anyone else...}, and I think I may have made a deal with my husband last night that if I learn French {again} this year, he'll take me for Christmas. I'm so excited!

And I can't wait for you to launce the Everygirl either! I'm so looking forward to it :)

    xoxo,
    Joelle

  5. Such wonderful goals. I need to do something different with my hair too, and if I'm going to sit on Pinterest as much as I do, I absolutely need to try at least one new recipe a week. Cannot wait for the launch of The Everygirl! I also want to learn how to sew and take a photography class. So much in store for 2012!

    xoxo,

  6. I'm loving all of these! So excited for Everygirl, and I really do hope you make it to Paris. And yeah, I have to agree that having the right equipment makes cooking about a million times more fun/successful. Though I'm not sold on the ombre hair trend (it never looks very healthy to me), I'm sure you'll rock whatever look you choose. Cheers to a new year!

  7. I think your hair would look great up in a messy bun--away from your face. And...stand up straight & pull your shoulders back girl:)

  8. Great resolutions - like I said over on Danielle's blog - I couldn't be more excited of the The Everygirl launch! And I'm sharing the same ideas when it comes to cooking and doing something different with my own hair! Can't wait to see what 2012 brings to you!

  9. Alaina --
I love that your goals are something to strive for but also doable. Your Everygirl idea sounds amazing and I can't wait to see it in action. Part of (what I see as being) an Everygirl can sometimes be wanting to do to much and then feeling unsatisfied or ashamed when we don't accomplish it. By starting with awesome but realistic goals, it will feel so good to cross those items off the list. I did a 12 for 2012 post on my blog (which as I write this I am wondering if that wasn't too many and I'm setting myself up for failure! Argh!) Cheers and all the best in 2012.

  13. Ha! Love your list. #1 is going to be exciting...quite the accomplishment!

  16. Love your list! They are fun yet passionate. I am off to grad school in Europe, which will be a challenge in itself. I also want to pick up another language (for my job and for myself) and I think the best language would be French! I've started taking some classes, so lets cross our finger!

  18. I love all of your goals! My goals are very similar, especially the cooking one, lol. I eat pretty much every meal out or if I do eat at home it is carry out. I love to cook, but it is very time consuming. Also, I am dying to go to Paris or anywhere in Europe. I have never been and I having been dreaming about this forever. I would love to be able to go sometime this year. Can't wait to see what 2012 has in store!

  21. I like these goals! One of mine is also to cook a new recipe each week! As for Paris, that is definitely a life goal...just maybe not this year :)

  23. Great goals and looking forward to reading The Everygirl! Regarding goal #4, I think you would look awesome with a side-swept bang (definitely a longer bang, and not boxy or too harsh, but something soft, and with longer layers on the sides so that when you pull it back, it looks cute and sophisticated and gives a whole new "look" to work with). For what it's worth, that's my suggestion! (here are two images that somewhat convey the bang idea: http://pinterest.com/pin/287104544964357758/ and http://pinterest.com/pin/13370130113282192/)

And I agree with you about ombre... sometimes I love it, and other times I'm not completely sold.

  24. Such great goals (especially Paris!). I have no doubt that The Everygirl is bound for success. I think you have a great year ahead of you... and maybe a shoulder-blade length cut with some layers? Could look pretty!

  25. I'm liking number 5, before your post I read another one about 5 (achievements) FIVE seems like a friendly number...The everygirl will be a success because you've put not only eggs but all your heart into it...loving the bright colors idea...I'd also love to get my butt back to Paris or maybe my butt would prefer ITALY, yes I think it would...hair in general makes me nervous , I think it's got a life of its own...THE NEW RECIPE, oh please do blog about it, it's a fab idea and we'd all benefit from the variety at lunch or dinner time...all the best

  28. I love your list of goals. It sounds like 2012 is going to be a wonderful year for you! Good luck on all your endeavors!

As for me, this year will (hopefully) be a year of magical thinking - of taking new classes to broaden my horizons, of traveling to new lands to open my eyes, of developing the relationships around me to open my heart.

Here's to a new year, and new possibilities!

  29. Got to do something with my hair too, hate how dark it is now (after pregnancy) so...for the first time in my life bought a coloring kit! Still not sure if I'll be brave enough ;)

  30. It sounds like a great list, especially love the visiting Paris - one of my favorite cities. My goals were more organizational - needing to purge in my home and manage my time better. Wishing you all the best in 2012!

  31. Good goals! I always try to add color to my wardrobe, but some times I just want to be neutral. Can't wait to see what you do with your hair. Yes, keep the length.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Great goals! I definitely am going to try to do one new recipe per week, like you. I need to, considering the massive pile of cookbooks I received as holiday gifts! I can't wait for the Everygirl launch, good luck with it! I'm sure it's going to be a big success :)

  33. Great goals! Your post has me thinking of my own goals for the new year. Things to ponder... Happy 2012!

  34. So excited for The Everygirl! And I can't wait to see how you add color to your home. Working on my own home is definitely on my list for 2012.

  35. So, this may come as a surprise to you but your number 1 goal is MY number 1 goal! Crazy, right?

This may ACTUALLY come as a surprise to you, but your #2 goal is one of my goals for this spring! I just did a post about this but have yet to publish it. I will likely ask for your help/thoughts on this one.

And you know that your #3 goal is my goal by sept. I'm thinking since we do everything else together that we should probably go to Paris together? Just a thought.

My hair is staying short but I am going to get in shape. As soon as my back gets better. And I'm not feeling too ambitious about cooking but good for you! I would like to go raw or gluten free. Something crazy.

Look at me not only leaving a comment...but a LONG one. At 4am. I'm going to be so useful later today. Talk to you in a few hours and pretty much every day after that.

    xo

  37. I love the ombre hair look - go for it! In fact I love your goals overall and it sounds like you're set for an amazing 2012....

I set out my own intentions for the year and qualities I'd like to be (as below).

    Best of luck x
