Thoughts on Personal Style

I just discovered the shop Totokaelo through a post on Jen Ament's blog, Art and Lair. I immediately fell in love with both the graphic top and the silk matka dress, shown here, despite how different the two items are. I think it goes to show, when it comes to my personal style, I'm kind of all over the place. And while my closet is undoubtedly dominated by preppy styles and J.Crew labels, I would just as willingly sport this slouchy, rock-star shirt or don this ultra-feminine frock.

What about you, readers? Do you keep an open-mind when it comes to fashion, wearing anything that catches your eye, regardless of color, texture, or pattern? Or do you prefer to stick with a style that has worked time and time again?

  1. I have to say, my closet is filled with J Crew, but I love anything that catches my eye no matter where it is from. These two pieces are lovely.

  3. I wish I was a bit more adventurous in the color department (black is a weakness) however I do know myself and my style so if I see something I like, I wear it! Always good to analyze your style though, don't want to get stuck in too much of a rut.

  4. I agree with jenna, I love wearing black -- I can't turn down the slimming effect. But I do feel like I'm adventurous with my acessories.

  5. I think I'm pretty open minded, but I always try to dress for my body. I can like a lot of things but if it's not going to look good on me I just admire from afar.

  6. My closet also contains a lot of J.Crew & mostly simple, if not, "plain-looking" clothes for work.
I'm not against wearing anything that catches my eye. It just so happens that most items that do, are within my "style". Ha, ha!
Like Connie, I'm also conscious of dressing for my body.

  7. I kinda dress the same everyday. Sometime's I'll throw a skirt in but usually its black pants, some kind of camisole or tank top, I really love silk and I try to look for different looking ones with lace or different stiching, beads. 98% always topped off with a skinny belt and a cardigan. That is my basic wardrobe. I am trying to snaz my self up with accessories. I love the boho style but it really doesn't work for me.

  8. I consider myself pretty versatile, but like other commenters, I do find myself wearing the same outfits week to week. I do love to shop different styles though. Body shape is a big issue, as an hourglass shape I am often drawn to arty pieces that just don't look right. So I tend to stick with the basics until I find just-the-right pieces (dresses look best on me, but for day to day I just don't find them practical). So to answer your question, yes. And no :)

  9. I love switching it up, esp depending on my mood. Black leather rocker chick one day, flowery flowing hippie dress the next.

  10. I guess my style is about being practical, comfortable and appropriate to the occasion. I think my style is a mix of classic and boho chic? don't know...Most of the times I dress in staple colors, I tend to go for muted colors rather than very flashy and bright ones. For instance, I love the first outfit, I would totally wear it ;)
